In teaching CalmBirth® meditation to pregnant women, I noticed that they were able to renew their inner strength and handle stress throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and early parenting. No matter what medical interventions or stresses may have occurred for the baby they appeared to be more calm and less stressed as well.

Based on meditation and the best principles of established psychosomatic medicine… compassionately guides mothers-to-be and new mothers through carefully structured relaxation and meditation practices … An empowering alternative to the 'medicalization of birth,' the techniques liberate women to channel their innate wisdom into welcoming their newborn child in a truly life affirming way.

I grew to love CalmBirth® meditation and noted its great value for mother, baby, and the partner. I love how it works on a quantum physics/energy level as well as meditation science to access energies that are invisible, but very much present. I love how it draws the woman into her own experience and power, instead of using hypnotic techniques to move away from herself and her own power. Indeed, mother and baby form a unified dyad and I see the CalmBirth®/Calm Mother meditation practices producing a firm foundation for greater health and stability for both members. I saw it build a stronger bond between partners, thus ensuring the baby a safer family unit in which to grow.

Calm Birth® is a sublime gift to all of us. It contains the blueprint for reconnecting with birth wisdom on all levels. Reading through this book and doing the practices will transform the birth process and imprint a peaceful beginning in both mother and child. The positive impact of this on society can't be overestimated.

Childbirth in America is in trouble. But that is not the major message of this wonderful book, just the opposite. The author, Newman, acknowledges the "medicalization of birth" and its numerous implications. But more so, Newman offers a program called CalmBirth® as a potent solution. It follows the tradition of the earlier pioneers such as Dick-Read, Lamaze, and Bradley in offering practical and ground-breaking solutions to the stresses of birth, but exceeds their efforts by a wide margin. This is essential reading for birth and other professionals who handle birth-related impacts, such as pediatricians, pre and perinatal practitioners, childbirth educators, doulas, midwives, nurses, and others. CalmBirth® is essential reading for expectant parents who can promote the health of their babies and prevent unnecessary negative impacts. And the book is magnificent reading!

CalmBirth® raises urgent questions about the mental and emotional quality of birth today and offers well-tested methods to help mothers take more responsibility for themselves and their babies. The prospect of reducing complications while increasing maternal feelings of dignity and triumph should warm the hearts of all birth attendants. CalmBirth® will help parents to see pregnancy as a master path, an opportunity to support fuller development of their own babies, and perhaps to provide them with the ultimate opportunity to give human evolution a boost in the right direction.

Calm Birth®, A new Method for Conscious Childbirth by Robert Bruce Newman, successfully bridges ancient feminine healing wisdom and meditation to contemporary birth practices. With a broad overview of the history of birth, and deep personal knowledge of meditation, the author presents practical methods which have the power to redefine birth from a "medical problem" to a natural human process that blesses life itself. With the possibility of safe and calm birth, bonding and trust occur easily and naturally and spread to family, community, and beyond. This book is a must for anyone interested in childbirth.

Calm Birth® is the childbirth method that society and I have waited for. It's been a long time coming, a very long time. I am a midwife and an educator, with a steady devotion to childbirth. I urge everyone to buy Robert Newman's inspired book...It does what is so deeply needed. It heals the Earth by healing birth.

During labor, if I didn't do calm breathing the way I'd learned, I felt pain. And when I did it correctly: no pain! if I didn't keep my breathing correctly, I'd feel pain. So I had to really focus on my breathing. It was the difference between pain or no pain. That was huge. - Ana Jaymes

Robert sent us an email with a written version of Womb Breathing and from the beginning Denise began breathing light and life into our little boy. During meditation I would do the same. It was such a wonderful feeling to be intending freedom and energy towards my unborn child. I knew God was sending us this child as a gift, wrapped in Denise, already in a perfect state. This was an amazing, calming sensation ...

At 22 weeks pregnant I went to the doctor for an ultrasound, excited about the possibility of finding out whether I was having a boy or a girl. Instead I discovered that I had almost no cervix left. Rather than being in the average range of 3-5 centimeters, my cervix was internally dilated and only 2 millimeters long. I knew this meant that the odds of carrying my baby to term were not in my favor. I was immediately admitted to the hospital ...

Ethan’s birth was the most amazing experience. I feel so blessed to have had such a wonderful birth. Matt and I are really lucky to have found Judith and Eden (our doula), both of them Calm Birth teachers. Having Eden with us through labor and delivery made all the difference in keeping my birth calm. Between all the support, the great hospital staff and Calm Birth, I feel that I was as ready as I could ever be to bring Ethan, my first child, into this world. I am so thankful for the wonderful birth and I give thanks every day for such a fantastic child! - Jeanne

The practice of CalmBirth® gave our daughter a peaceful beginning. Not only did CalmBirth® help us on the day of her birth, but also during my pregnancy and the days following delivery. It has become a way of life for us. I was a few days overdue and to my frustration an induction was planned. More than anything, I wanted to have a natural birth and while I knew certain variables were out of my hands, with what I had learned I knew I could control how I handled the situation we were in. Adrienne, our instructor, helped my husband and I feel that we had the power and control over what our delivery could be, and that even if I ended having to be induced, with what we learned in CalmBirth® we could still have a peaceful birth. - Nell and Charles

Womb Breathing helped me work with the labor process instead of fighting it. This helped me a lot. I think it would have gone on longer if I didn't do Womb Breathing. It was noninvasive and empowering.
CalmBirth® was helpful for me and I think it was helpful for Cooper also. He's a mellow baby. . . I think that's a benefit from CalmBirth®. - Molly

The last two weeks, when the contractions came, I put on the CalmBirth® CD and it really, really helped me. It relaxed me and helped me focus on what was going on . . . The night before the birth I could just think of me and the baby and it was okay. To me, after my first [very difficult] pregnancy, feeling relaxed was a big thing. - Nora
